Introduction

Hello and Good Day Everybody !
I am a new teacher in the school named Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Datuk Bendahara. This school is situated in Jasin, Melaka.
I am accepted to be one of the Guru Sandaran Terlatih (GST) here. There are 10 of us, my batch joined the schools in 27th June 2011.
In this blog, I share with you my experience and great things that are happening to me in the school.
There are also notes and things for good English class usages, so feel free to browse them whenever there are gaps between classes.
My mentor here is Hajjah Zaorah and she has been guiding me to be a better English teacher.

1.     Answer short questions related to the SPM format.
2.     Answer 5 IT questions correctly.

Activities  :
  1. Students are greeted and welcomed, they are shown the SPM format paper 2.
  2. They are briefed on each section.
  3. Then, they are given an example of section B, Information Transfer and they attempt the questions.
  4. The answers are discussed and explained.

2.3 a Present information to different audiences by using appropriate format, conventions and grammar when presenting information
2.3 f Present information to different audiences by composing, revising and editing drafts and checking accuracy of spelling, punctuation and grammar.

Learning Objectives       : By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:-
1.     Correct and rewrite the sentences
2.     Write down their own sentences using correct tenses
Activities  :
1.     The class is opened with teacher mentioning the importance of correct grammar usages.
2.     Students are divided into 5 groups, and they are briefed on how to play the game.
3.     8 questions are written on the whiteboard, and representatives of the groups are required to write the answers for as many questions that they could answer in 4 minutes.
4.     After that, the answers are discussed, and the best group wins.
5.     Students write down in questions in the exercise book and given time to ask questions.
6.     The lesson is concluded.

Learning Objectives       : By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:-
1.     Link all 5 new words with their meanings.
2.     Elaborate 2 out of 5 points in the directed writing exercise.
Activities  :
  1. Students are greeted and welcomed; they are shown Directed Writing question, 35 marks and to be done approximately 45 minutes.
  2. Then, they are given an example of section B, Information Transfer and they find the difficult words, and write down the words in the Vocab book.
  3. They are given an exercise, match the words with the following meaning.(noble, tirelessly, role etc).
  4. The points for the task are elaborated and they find the meaning of the words as we go along.
  5. They are given time to elaborate the first point and share their elaborations to the class.
  6. Teacher guides by mentioning the accepted type of elaborations.

  1. Students are introduced with the general description of poetry, and they give ideas on what they know about poetry.
  2. They are introduced to the kinds of poetry forms with examples and they are given chance to practice writing an acrostic poem.
  3. They are led on how to recite the poem with correct pronunciation and intonation.

1.     Locate the type of meter used in a line of a poem.
2.     Come out with their examples of onomatopoeia and alliteration examples.
3.     Write a short 4 line poem that uses the rhyming system ababab.

Activities  :
1.     Students are introduced to the usage of syllables to form meters.
2.     They are shown on the importance of meter in relation to the meaning and rhythm in a specific poem. They are shown the examples, and they identify where are the stressed an unstressed syllable.
3.     Then, they are shown on rhyming scheme and the examples
4.     Students attempt writing a poem with a rhyming scheme.

3.1 Explaining the meaning the writer is trying to convey and discussing how this relates to one’s life.

Learning Objectives       : By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:-
1.     Talk about their unforgettable experience with their friends.
2.     Participate in the class activity by asking questions to their friends
3.     Express their opinions on the meaning of the poem.
Activities  :
1.     Teacher elicits information from students on their opinions on hardships and mishaps they have experienced in life.
2.     Teacher relates the activity with the poem to be discussed, the poem is introduced
3.     Teacher leads students to guess the situation in the poem.
4.     Handout 1 is distributed and they are asked on what they see in the picture.
5.     Students share their experience when facing a natural disaster and what to do when disaster strikes in their lives.
6.     They go around the class to find out other people’s bad experience.

1.     Students are given 5 minutes to read the poem, while guessing the emotions involved in the stanzas and at the same time underline the difficult words.

3.     The lesson is concluded by encouraging them to list down the themes and moral values.
